Get Sexy this Valentine’s Day

Celebrate the sustainability of your love this Valentine’s Day and make it last. Share your love with your partner and mother nature this Tuesday, whether going out for a picnic or getting romantic over a quiet dinner at home. Here are a few alternative things to explore in Cape Town this year.

Local is Lekker

Chocolates, cards and flowers are traditional on Valentine’s Day –  but let’s do something a little different this year. Explore Cape Town for locally produced gifts. Remember “local is lekker”. Instead of handing your date a generic Valentine’s Day card create something special and homemade. Running out of time? Buy a unique card from the Flower Mill with funky patterns printed on recycled paper.

Although surprising your date with a bunch of roses is traditional Hollywood romance, rock up with a bouquet of kingly proteas. Flower Valley supplies indigenous fynbos to Pick ‘n Pay stores around Cape Town which is ethically sourced without depleting our beautiful flora. Otherwise opt for gifting your date  a pot plant instead, cupping a local fynbos flower or cactus. Nothing says “I love you” like a living thing.

We know Valentine’s Day is all about the chocolate. Treat your date with organically sourced and deliciously dark Honest Chocolate. If you are feeling particularly creative, why not experiment with your own organic chocolate desserts, courtesy of Live Eco.

Getting Tangled on Valentine’s Day

Grab your date and whisk them off for a romantic picnic on our beautiful Cape Town landscape. Take a walk up Lion’s Head, put out a spread at Kirstenbosch Gardens or flock to the beach for some love in the sun. The Cape Town Hop on Hop Off bus offers a lovely tour around the Cape Peninsula with many little wine farms and interesting stops to explore.

For wining and dining visit the Fair Trade site to source delightful organic wines for a picnic. Or else grab a bottle of Tangled Tree wine for your outdoor adventures. This fun wine comes in a plastic lighter bottle that is more convenient to transport. The packaging is also 100% recyclable and reduces the carbon footprint left by glass bottles by 75%. Enjoy responsibly.

The origin story of Tangled Tree is a love story itself.  Rooted in the Robertson Wine Valley is the tale of the first Van Loverens who settled on their farm in 1937. Each stubborn spouse planted a tree and the two trees became tangled in each others branches as they grew – becoming a metaphor for their love. As a couple you can celebrate and share your love by planting your own tree through Greenpop .

If you are looking for some indoor romance, stay home and make a meal together. Set the scene with some lovely soy or hemp candles from Hemporium which melts into massage oil for later.  To spice up the bedroom, Faithful to Nature has offered discounted prices on their naughty Valentine’s treats, including their vegan love butter, body cream and sensual lube from the Organic Machine range that boasts “edible beauty”.

Keep it natural and local this Valentine’s day. Remember, make your love last by by making your lover and your planet happy!
